Posters for a climate change awareness campaign in Nicaragua, personifying the country as its iconic revolutionary hero, Augusto Sandino. The silhouette in the posters is taken from photos of enormous metal sculptures that watch over Managua and key crossroads. The impacts of climate change, or at least events similar to those that match models of climate change, are already being felt by many Nicaraguans, but without awareness of a connection to a human-induced phenomena. The posters make a clear link between impacts, such as landslides (‘aterrado’ means buried), hurricanes and major storms (‘daminificado’ means victimized by a natural disaster), and floods (‘inundado’ means inundated or flooded), to climate change, thus removing them from merely random events or punishment by a religious power.
